The President of UNESCO Club -University of Ghana, Mr. Emmanuel Johnson Egyire, has been selected to speak at a virtual youth event on mental health and well-being organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The event scheduled for 29th June, 2026, will bring together young leaders and UNESCO Club representatives from Africa and the Caribbean. It seeks to promote learning, engagement, and connection around mental health and psychosocial well-being among young people.

Mr. Egyire will join a distinguished panel of youth representatives during the session titled Youth and Mental Health: Overview of Challenges and Opportunities, where participants will share perspectives on the realities, challenges, and opportunities surrounding mental health and well-being in their respective contexts. He will contribute alongside representatives from Senegal, Guinea, Liberia, Kenya, and Jamaica, highlighting the experiences and voices of young people in Ghana.

The UNESCO Club - University of Ghana Chapter was recently launched and is hosted by the Legon Centre for Education Research and Policy (LECERP). The Club seeks to promote UNESCO's ideals among students while creating opportunities for youth engagement, leadership, and international collaboration. Mr. Egyire's participation in the dialogue is being facilitated by LECERP as part of its commitment to supporting youth leadership, development, and international engagement through the activities of the Club.

The virtual event forms part of UNESCO's efforts to strengthen youth engagement in promoting mental health awareness, reducing stigma, and fostering supportive communities. The dialogue aims to raise awareness of mental health and well-being as a critical component of education and development, and encourage collaboration among youth networks and institutional partners. The event will also provide a platform for young people to exchange experiences and explore practical approaches to promoting well-being within their communities.

His invitation to participate in this international dialogue offers an opportunity to showcase Ghana's perspectives on youth well-being and contribute to broader conversations on strengthening mental health support systems for young people.

The Legon Centre for Education Research and Policy (LECERP) congratulates Mr. Emmanuel Johnson Egyire on this recognition and wishes him success as he represents the UNESCO Club of the University of Ghana in this important international conversation on youth mental health and well-being.
